When should you hire an attorney?
There are many reasons to contact an attorney. Here are some of the more common ones we have seen.
- If the adjuster for the insurance company is telling you: " you don't need to hire an attorney", it's time to wonder. Why do they say that? Is that helpful to you or them? Generally, it's been our experience that the adjuster that says that, is an adjuster that likes to be in control of your claim. Adjusters know what benefits you are entitled to. If you don't know what to ask for, the adjusters may not offer the full benefits. With an attorney by your side, you can ensure that you are as well prepared as they are.
- If your care or treatment is delayed or denied - it's time to consult with an attorney.
- If your employer or claims adjuster is treating you with disrespect - it's time to call an attorney.
- If your medical provider doesn't seem to be listening to you; If they say " let's just deal with one body part at a time." If they send you back to full duty work when you know you're not ready - it's time to call an attorney.
- If you would like help and support to get through your claim, call us. It's hard enough jumping through all the hoops when you're feeling well, let alone when you are in pain and distress. Many of our clients tell us what a huge relief it is just to have someone on their side.
The Law Offices of Sharon F. Cohen will help ensure that you get everything you are entitled to by law.
How does the attorney get paid?
The attorney fee is fixed by statute. That means that the State of California says how much a Workers' Compensation attorney can be paid. The attorney fee is paid by the insurance company. It is paid out of any award that you are given by the insurance company at the end of your claim. The judge determines the attorney fee when you are ready to settle your claim. The range is between 12-15% of your award.
Another benefit of having Sharon Cohen represent you is that she is an Attorney and a Registered Nurse. She is uniquely qualified to identify any lasting effects you may have as a result of your work injury.
